Fruit, Diabetes and Weight Loss

Fruit:

Is it good or bad for Diabetics?  Is it good or bad for people trying to loose weight?

Fresh fruit is always good for anyone, the fresher the better!!!

Fresh fruit has sugar, yes, but it also has vitamins for your body to handle the sugar and enzymes to help the vitamins work for your body.

For Diabetics who need to know how many carbs, or sugar, is in the fruit, I recommend the book The Doctor's Pocket Calorie, Fat and Carbohydrate Counter.  I still use my 2004 edition  to see the carb counts of fresh fruit.  It allows me to figure out the amount of Insulin I need when I eat it.  Just remember, ripe fruit has more sugar or carbs in it than unripe fruit.  In other words a slightly green, firm bannana is lower glycemic than a ripe, slightly brown bananna.  A very ripe bananna would be concidered High Glycemic.

Happy Fresh Fruit Joy to all!!!
